The reduction in triglycerides was greatest for the very low-carbohydrate (&lt;10% of calories from carbohydrates) diet: \u221224 mg\/dL (95% CI: \u221238 to \u22129 mg\/dL) when combined with weight loss (\u22121.62 kg). In a short-term (8-week) study designed to assess the effects of a low-carbohydrate (20% energy) versus a lower-fat (33% energy) diet on lipids and lipoproteins in individuals with elevated triglyceride levels (\u2265150 mg\/dL), body weight decreased by 1.7 kg and triglycerides decreased 18% on the low-carbohydrate diet. No effect on triglycerides was seen with the lower-fat diet despite a weight loss of 0.7 kg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:
